Sanctuary city is a name given to a city in the United States that follows certain procedures that shelters illegal immigrants. These procedures can be by law (de jure) or they can be by action (de facto). The term most commonly is used for cities that do not permit municipal funds or resources to be applied in furtherance of enforcement of federal immigration laws. These cities normally do not permit police or municipal employees to inquire about one’s immigration status. The designation of Sanctuary City” has no legal meaning.

As you do your homework, take care to understand the differences between an immigrant
and an illegal. The immigrant is in the system legally, and has certain rights that need to
be protected. The illegal alien is not in the system, has not applied for immigration status;
cannot be charged with a crime or give evidence as they are not natural citizens or in the
system to become one. For all intents and purposes, they are not considered to be in the
U.S. period.
When a foreign national is illegally smuggled into the U.S. or violates visa restrictions–he
or she is an unauthorized (illegal) alien present in the U.S. in violation of U.S. law, and
subject to deportation under Title 8 of the U.S. Code § 1227, Deportable aliens.

Hello Fran.
Thanks for bringing some clarity to that topic. There is so much talk out there about all of this stuff but folks forget to break things down to the finer points.
YW John. The truth is too hard to find out there when so many follow the leader without question.
